Oriental & Fine Area Rug Cleaning
In-plant rug cleaning is strongly recommended for Oriental rugs and loose-woven area rugs. Unlike wall-to-wall carpeting, fine rugs should never be cleaned on location. Proper care requires specialized equipment, controlled conditions, and experienced handling.
At Ultimate Cleaning Services, we have the expertise to care for rugs ranging from the finest handmade Oriental rugs to more basic decorative rugs from around the world. Our goal is to safely restore beauty, remove deeply embedded soil, and extend the life of your investment.
Convenient Pickup & Delivery
We provide professional pickup and delivery throughout NYC, Westchester County, and Fairfield County. Each rug entrusted to us receives our thorough Nine-Step Oriental Rug Cleaning System, designed to deliver maximum soil removal, careful stain treatment, and safe, controlled drying.
Clients may also choose to drop off and pick up rugs directly at our warehouse if preferred.
Allowing us to clean your rug in our plant enables multiple specialized treatments, proper drying, and the use of advanced tools not available during on-site cleaning — resulting in a significantly deeper and safer clean.
Our Nine-Step Oriental Rug Cleaning Process
Step 1: Pre-Inspection & Pickup
Each rug is carefully inspected to identify fiber type, construction, dyes, and any existing conditions that may affect cleaning. We explain expected results and determine the proper cleaning approach before safely picking up your rug.
Step 2: Dry Soil Removal
Dry soil is one of the most damaging elements in a rug. Woven and hand-knotted rugs are designed to hide dirt deep within the fibers. Studies have shown that a 9′ x 12′ rug can hold up to 87 pounds of dry soil.
We use specialized dusting techniques, pile lifters, and professional vacuum systems to remove embedded debris from both the front and back of the rug. This is the most critical step in the entire process.
Step 3: Pre-Conditioning
Based on fiber type and soil composition, the rug is pre-treated with solutions that safely loosen and emulsify soil prior to washing.
Step 4: Pre-Spotting & Fringe Preparation
Stubborn spots are individually treated using specialized solutions to maximize removal. Fringe areas are pre-treated separately to ensure uniform cleaning without damage.
Step 5: Specialized Rug Shampoo
Most rugs are cleaned using a professional-grade Oriental rug shampoo specifically formulated to clean thoroughly while protecting delicate natural fibers such as wool and silk.
Step 6: Rinse or Wash
Depending on the rug’s construction, it is either rinsed using extraction equipment on both sides or washed in a wash pit designed specifically for Oriental rugs.
Step 7: Controlled Speed Drying
After rinsing, rugs are dried flat or hung in a controlled environment. Proper drying is essential to prevent color bleeding, fiber distortion, and unnatural shrinkage.
Step 8: Finishing & Grooming
Once dry, the rug is carefully groomed using specialty tools designed for fine textiles, restoring texture and appearance.
Step 9: Final Inspection & Delivery
Each rug undergoes a final inspection before being wrapped in protective brown craft paper to shield it from dust and environmental contaminants. Upon delivery, we will place the rug back in your home.
